Our Diagnostics Services

In-house laboratory

Our in-house laboratory allows us to diagnose many illnesses quickly, often while you and your pet are still at the clinic. With on-site testing for blood and urine analysis, skin and ear cytology, and more, we’re able to gather essential health information in just minutes. Having immediate access to test results means there’s no waiting on outside labs, allowing our veterinarians to develop a treatment plan and begin care as soon as possible.

Reference laboratory

For specialized or non-urgent testing, we work closely with trusted reference laboratories that offer comprehensive diagnostic services. These labs provide advanced testing options such as expanded blood panels, histopathology, cultures, and other specialized diagnostics that help us reach an accurate diagnosis. Reference lab testing works alongside our in-house laboratory services to give us a more complete understanding of your pet’s overall health.

Common tests we send to reference laboratories include:

  • Tumor biopsies
  • Routine fecal parasite testing
  • Culture and sensitivity testing
  • Routine wellness screening
  • PCR and infectious disease testing
  • Urinary stone analysis

X-ray

X-rays are an important diagnostic tool that help us evaluate your pet’s bones, joints, chest, abdomen, bladder, and other internal structures. At our hospital, we use digital X-ray technology to produce clear, high-quality images almost instantly, while reducing the need for repeat images and limiting radiation exposure. Our veterinarians review all X-rays in-house and may also send images to a board-certified radiologist for additional expert interpretation when needed.

We may recommend X-rays for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Suspected fractures or soft tissue injuries
  • Vomiting
  • Urinary concerns
  • Abnormal findings during an abdominal exam
  • Heart murmurs
  • Coughing or difficulty breathing

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging tool that allows us to view your pet’s internal organs in real time, providing detailed, three-dimensional images without the use of radiation. At Companion Pet Care, we work with a visiting imaging specialist who performs abdominal ultrasounds, evaluates internal organs, collects biopsies when needed, and conducts echocardiograms to assess heart health.
